Common Social Media Mistakes

There are many common mistakes made by new businesses on Instagram that can be costly in many ways.

The first mistake is security. Hackers steal accounts all the time, and is probably more common than people think. Therefore, you need to protect your account right away. Turn on two factor authentication on right away. There is no reason to delay activating this important feature. Don’t use the same email address for your account that you use for customer contact. I would recommend a second email address for your account. The same goes for your account phone and your account contact phone number.

Create Facebook Manager yourself, so you are the owner of the account and not a staff member. If you’re using an accounts manager, have them give you all the accounts are owned by you. The account manager can be added on as an approved administrator.

Collect real names, phone numbers and emails from people who send you direct messages. Otherwise, you will be losing opportunities to retarget these people in the future. If your using a social media manager, you must check their work regularly. Make sure they are doing the work you hired them to do. Evaluate your account to make sure they are not using an artificial method to boost your account. This will hurt your account in the long term.

Use original photos and videos as much as possible. Try to avoid stock images and reposting of photos or videos. Instagram prefers original content and by using original content will work in your favor.
